The upgrading of Berawan Water Treatment Plant in Limbang will overcome the increase of clean water supply demands for consumers living in Limbang Town and its surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before this, it served 9,532 consumers (as of December 2018) with a capacity of only 20 million litres daily (MLD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once fully commissioned, the plant \u2013 which is managed by LAKU Management Sdn Bhd \u2013 should be able to increase production capability of up to 40 MLD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the project implementing agency Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), the existing Berawan Water Treatment Plant is located near the junction of Jalan Kubong and Jalan Medamit, which is approximately 10 km from Limbang Town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a cost of around RM33.5 million, the upgrading project began on 4 March 2019 and was supposed to be completed on 3 September 2020, but unforeseen circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic led to a delay in the project and was given a revised completion date of 12 January 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scope of the project involved the construction of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. A new 8.8 km, 500 \u00d8 Ductile Iron Cement Lined (DICL) pipeline from Sungai Pandaruan Raw Water Intake to Berawan Water Treatment Plant<\/li>
  2. A new 20 MLD Process Plant comprising:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    (i)  Four flocculation tanks;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (ii)  Four sedimentation tanks;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (iii)  Six filters; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (iv)  A control gallery, including capacity upgrading of existing treated water pumping station, chemical facilities, electrical plant and new supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. A new 500 \u00d8 DICL treated water pipeline from Berawan WTP to 6.8 ML reservoir at approximately 1.0 km<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      JBALB stated that the upgrading project was physically completed, and that the internal full testing and commissioning of the water treatment plant was conducted from 5 to 8 February 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
