Jurang akses elektrik di kawasan luar bandar Sarawak masih menjadi cabaran ketara meskipun pelbagai inisiatif telah dilaksanakan. Sehingga kini, lebih daripada 30,000 isi rumah dijangka akan menerima bekalan elektrik sepenuhnya melalui sistem mikro-hidro dan solar menjelang tahun 2025 (ir.unimas.my; sarawakenergy.com). Namun, masih terdapat komuniti seperti di Sri Aman, Bario, dan Padawan yang belum disambungkan kepada grid nasional, dan sebahagiannya bergantung sepenuhnya kepada generator diesel yang bukan sahaja mahal untuk dioperasikan tetapi juga tidak stabil (feng.unimas.my).
